GOOD PRACTICE IN IMPLEMENTING A CODE OF PRACTICE
By
consensus, good practice:
-
Is management led, with senior management taking responsibility for
its implementation while the process remains participatory and inclusive
of smallholders;
-
Is adopted company-wide, or at least is applied to an entire production
site (e.g. farm, pack-house);
-
Encourages continual improvement in the company's social performance,
and establishes a baseline against which improvement can be monitored;
-
Promotes prevention rather than detection of bad practice (i.e. is proactive
not reactive);
-
Is used as a routine management practice.
