This is a control tool, used to help alleviate the threat to rural livelihoods posed by the bird pest Quelea quelea lathamii.  The model generates a forecast for breeding patterns of Quelea quelea lathamii over the whole of Southern Africa.

The model was produced by the Natural Resources Institute of the University of Greenwich, in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh.  The Quelea breeding forecast system has now been adopted by SADC ( Southern African Development Community) and is run by the RRSU ( Regional Remote Sensing Unit) of the FANR ( Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources) Directorate.

This site now acts as a mirror site for the SADC Quelea breeding forecast system run by the RRSU .

Model design: Jon Venn, Bob Cheke and Peter Jones.
