FERTILIZER TYPE

Organic manures, where readily available, are desirable for:

  • Cost saving compared to purchased fertilizers,
  • Improving soil structure,
  • Presenting opportunities for access to organic markets,
but care must be taken to avoid risking food safety or heavy metal contamination

Where chemical fertilizers are applied:

  • Only reputable suppliers should be used
  • Compound fertilizer composition should match the actual requirements of the crop
