MINIMIZING INFESTATION

1. Crop rotation to avoid sustained conditions favouring establishment of a particular weed species.

2. Effective cultivation to bury established weeds, allow weed seeds no chance to germinate, and keep the soil surface covered so that new weeds cannot easily establish themselves.

3. Early planting or transplanting to achieve rapid establishment of the crop so that weeds cannot compete and any that emerge are quickly smothered.
