SOIL, WATER AND CROP MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES

  • The cultivation methods adopted make sustainable use of soil and water resources;
  • fertilizer policy maximizes the use of organic manures and avoids mineral contamination of soil or water supplies;
  • Irrigation system is based on sustainable use of groundwater, rivers or retained rainfall, and does not result in soil erosion, leaching of nutrients, soil or water contamination or drainage difficulties;
  • Integrated pest management techniques are used, which maximize reliance on cultural and biological methods of weed, pest and disease control;
  • Any agrochemicals used are approved by national and international legislation and are applied using industry recommended techniques;
  • Surplus agrochemicals and used containers are stored or disposed of in ways that protect soil, water and biological habitats;
  • Crop residues are used or disposed of in ways that strengthen natural habitats.
