FOOD SAFETY CONCERNS - YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

There is nothing like a health scare to destroy a market which has been benefiting from the healthy eating trend. Product safety and integrity is non-negotiable. It is a basic entry-level requirement for a supplier to meet all the protocols to guarantee safe food. All suppliers must meet the standards; meeting the standards is no longer a way of gaining competitive advantage. In fact the most recent concern is how to ensure protocols are met efficiently. Food safety regulations affect consumer health, food habits and food productivity in all countries and regions of the world.

Implications:

In this dynamic field it is important for all stakeholders to understand issues of food safety: hazards of food contamination such as Salmonella infection; strategies that can influence the viability of small and medium enterprises and of the ability of these enterprises to meet the requirements of new standards.
