CROP COLLECTION

  • Much of the value of the crop can be lost if collection from village packing stations and delivery to the first stage of the cold chain is delayed.
  • There should be a regular schedule for collection of crop from the field stations.
  • The point at which ownership of the crop changes hands from grower to buyer should be absolutely clear, to avoid disagreements on responsibility for later deterioration.
  • Wherever possible representatives of both buyers and growers should be present at the sorting and collection centres, to record receipts and monitor deliveries.
