PAYMENT PROCEDURES

Payments to farmers should be made as soon as possible after acceptance of the crop at the weighing and grading centre. At least a first payment which covers production costs should be made here, even if the final payment linked to market value is delayed until the crop is sold. There must be a clear and transparent accounting system which shows how the farmer's payment is calculated and explains any bonuses and deductions made.

Related Information: Other factors in crop harvesting and handling: timing of harvesting; sorting and packing; adding value ; crop collection.
